چکیده

Pheophytins esterified with phytol and tetrahydrogeranylgeraniol are isolated from etiolated oat seedlings after short (1 min) exposure to light and a subsequent dark period of 15 to 20 min. After saponification of the pheophytins, a mixture of the alcohols was isolated. The structure of tetra hydrogeranylgeraniol was established as 3,7,11,15-tetramethyl-zl2’14 hexadecadiene-l-ol (3a). The implications for chlorophyll biosynthesis are discussed.

Influence of Aminotriazol on the Biosynthesis of Chlorophyll and Phytol

Herbicidal Action of Aminotriazol, Wheat and Oat Seedlings, Chlorophyll, Phytol, Geranylgeraniol, Dihydrogeranylgeraniol, Tetrahydrogeranylgeraniol Treatment of wheat caryops with 3-amino-l,2,4-triazol followed by dark germination leads to phytol deficiency (based on the chlorophyll content) during the subsequent greening process in the light. The analysis of the pigment fraction reveales the p...

Chlorophyll degradation: the tocopherol biosynthesis-related phytol hydrolase in Arabidopsis seeds is still missing.

Phytyl diphosphate (PDP) is the prenyl precursor for tocopherol biosynthesis. Based on recent genetic evidence, PDP is supplied to the tocopherol biosynthetic pathway primarily by chlorophyll degradation and sequential phytol phosphorylation. Three enzymes of Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) are known to be capable of removing the phytol chain from chlorophyll in vitro: chlorophyllase1 (CLH1)...

The formation of chlorophyll from chlorophyllide in leaves containing proplastids is a four-step process.

The time course of the different esters of chlorophyllide (Chlide) during the formation of chlorophyll a (Chl) in embryonic bean leaves containing proplastids was investigated by HPLC. After the reduction of photoactive Pchlide (Pchlide) to Chlide, three intermediates, i.e. Chlide geranylgeraniol, Chlide dihydrogeranylgeraniol and Chlide tetrahydrogeranylgeraniol were detected before the format...

Chlorophyll Biosynthesis.

A leaf with 70 million cells houses .v5 x 109 chloroplasts, each containing m600 million molecules of chlorophyll (Simpson and Knoetzel, 1995). These 10’8 chlorophyll molecules, all of which are bound to proteins of the photosynthetic membranes, harvest the sunlight. Approximately 250 to 300 of them transfer the absorbed light energy through neighboring pigments to the “special pair” chlorophyl...

Phytol from Degradation of Chlorophyll Feeds Biosynthesis of Tocopherols.

Tocopherols, a subclassof tocochromanols that contain a phytol attached to the head group, act as antioxidants to protect lipids from oxidative damage, a particularly important function in chloroplasts and for seed longevity (reviewed in Maeda and DellaPenna, 2007). One pathway for tocopherol biosynthesis involves de novo synthesis from geranylgeranyl-diphosphate; the other pathway uses phytols...
